About Our Facilities
The Department of Health, Sport, and Human Physiology (HSHP) is now located in the Health Sciences Academic Building (HSAB), a modern, six-story facility designed to support teaching, research, and administrative operations across the health sciences.
HSAB brings together academic, research, clinical, and collaborative spaces to enhance interdisciplinary work and provide a central hub for faculty, staff, and students.
What We Do
HSHP Facilities & Space Management supports the daily operations and long-term planning of departmental spaces. Our role is to ensure that facilities are functional, safe, and aligned with the needs of our academic and research mission.
Primary services include:
- Space planning and allocation
- Move coordination and space transitions
- Facilities maintenance coordination (in partnership with UI Facilities Management)
- Issue reporting and resolution
- Access and building coordination
- Equipment and inventory oversight
- Support for teaching, research, and administrative spaces
We serve as the primary point of contact for facility-related questions and help connect faculty and staff with the appropriate university resources.
Space & Move Coordination
HSHP Facilities manages departmental space assignments and supports:
- Office and workspace allocation
- Research and lab space coordination
- Staff and faculty moves within HSAB
- Department-wide relocations and transitions
We work closely with college and university partners to ensure space is used efficiently and supports evolving program needs.

New Health Sciences Academic Building is on its way
The new building, which began construction in summer 2023, will be the new home of three important university departments: Health and Human Physiology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, and Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science. This six-story, $249 million facility will become a hub for innovative teaching and learning, community outreach, engagement in experiential education, and cutting edge biomedical clinical community health-related research. The building, which is currently scheduled to be completed in 2026, will also be the first to bring together the Carver College of Medicine and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
