The University of Iowa Parking and Transportation Department provides and supports access, mobility and transportation services to patients, visitors, students, faculty, staff. The parking system is a self-supporting enterprise providing parking for the main campus including University of Iowa Health Care and academic, athletic, and entertainment events.

Short-term, mobile payment zones, ramp, and lot parking spots are available at the Health Sciences Academic Building. Mobile payment zones require patrons to have the ParkMobile payment app. Download ParkMobile for iOS here, and download ParkMobile for Android here. 

Due to the limited number of HSAB parking spaces available, it is recommended to direct guests to park in Parking Ramp 4 and take the walkway across Melrose Aven to the Health Sciences Academic Building.

HSAB Drop Off Area

A designated passenger drop-off area is available on S Grand Ave on the east side of the Health Sciences Academic Building (HSAB).  This area is to accommodate visitors, patients, guests, and individuals requiring temporary assistance when arriving at or departing from the building. The drop-off zone is intended for active loading and unloading only and is not designated for long-term parking. Drivers should remain with their vehicles whenever possible and follow all posted parking and traffic regulations. Research Participant and CSD Clinical Parking

HSHP Research Participant and CSD Clinical parking is available for individuals participating in approved research studies or clinical experiences. Parking eligibility, permit requirements, and parking locations vary based on program needs and assignment locations. Individuals participating in research trials and clinical activities should work with their research groups, clinicians, academic programs, and University Parking & Transportation to determine the appropriate parking option. 

Accessible parking

If faculty/staff/students require temporary accessible parking due to a disability, please have them contact UI Parking and Transportation. Generally, “Y1” parking spots are only approved after Parking and Transportation has explored all other alternatives.

Bicycle Lockers

Secure bicycle locker parking permits are available for HSAB occupants.

University of Iowa faculty and staff employed 50% of the time or more in a permanent position may qualify for a secure bicycle parking assignment. UI graduate students may be assigned a secure bicycle space based on availability.

How to apply

Secure bicycle locker parking is assigned from waitlists. Access parking waitlists through the online Parking Portal.

  1. Select the option to purchase a permit/U-PASS in the Parking Portal to add your name on waitlist
  2. Once available, an offer will be sent to your university email address
  3. Accept offer by the deadline and agree to terms and conditions

Before using secure bicycle parking spaces, users must register their bike with Bike Index. 

Transportation

The university offers free on-campus accessible Cambus transit service and is available to University of Iowa employees and students. Cambus also offers the Bionic Bus, which provides door-to-door, demand-response service provided with lift-equipped mini-buses.

  • CAMBUS is the University’s public transit system that provides fixed-route service throughout the campus. For qualifying persons with disabilities, CAMBUS also provides a complimentary demand-response service called the Bionic Bus. The services are no fare and available to the general public.

Finding the Health Sciences Academic Building

The Health Sciences Academic Building (HSAB) is located at 302 S. Grand Avenue, Iowa City, IA 52242, on the University of Iowa health sciences campus. Visitors may access the building using a variety of transportation options, including campus parking facilities, CAMBUS service, bicycle parking, and pedestrian routes. Short-term parking, mobile payment spaces, and nearby parking ramps are available in the area. Due to limited parking immediately adjacent to HSAB, visitors are encouraged to review current parking and transportation options before arriving.
