As a UISRM student, I was fortunate enough to take part in the Iowa Energy, San Diego Consulting, and John Deere Classic practicums, as well as multiple field trips and experiential learning opportunities. All were made possible by the UISRM faculty and available resources. The valuable exposure and benefits I acquired from the experiences facilitated by the program gave me the confidence and understanding that pursuing my passion for sport was not only realistic, but attainable.
As a UISRM senior in 2017, I had the privilege of traveling to Cleveland where I was able to network and interview with more than ten professional sports teams at the Sport Sales Workshop and Job Fair. Ultimately, I landed a dream job with the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium as a 22-year-old graduate. It was my time within UISRM that provided me with these opportunities and ultimately helped propel me ahead of so many other candidates—something I’m still immensely grateful for today.
Almost ten years into my career, I’m now on the other side of the table and have been fortunate enough to help interview and hire students from UISRM. Organically, SRM resumes rise to the top because the experiences, practicums, and hands-on leadership they showcase far surpass those of their peers. It’s a great reminder that this is made possible by the professors, staff, mentors, and others who pour their effort and passion into the program. However, the gifts and donations provided by supporters of UISRM through the UI Center for Advancement are what fund this important work and these opportunities.
From a young age, my parents, Mary and Steven Schneider (BS 1975, MBA 1977), have taught me the importance of donating when and where I can, with the goal of making a tangible impact. Alongside them, I’m thrilled when reading handwritten notes of gratitude from students who received a scholarship or earned an opportunity to take part in an experience that otherwise would have been out of financial reach. As a supporter of the program, the testimonials I receive are reminders of the benefits and impact my gifts can make and lead to a host of rewarding feelings. Along with the success I’ve had in my career, it reaffirms why we’re committed to giving to UISRM for the foreseeable future and beyond.
