Current students are gaining valuable work experience through internships and guided field experience. Recent UISRM graduates are entering the sport and recreation industries with internships and full-time employment. Alumni are advancing toward their dream jobs. Camp Courageous Guided Field Experience
Congratulations to each of the students who successfully completed the Camp Courageous practicum! This course is offered during the winter session in collaboration with the Therapeutic Recreation program and the Disability Studies Certificate, both in the Health, Sport, and Human Physiology Department.

Fans First Guided Field Experience
Congratulations to each of the students who successfully completed the Fans First practicum and provided excellent guest services and event management at a variety of local events!
- Alissa Bibeault, Drew Bigelbach, Charlie Bowen, Connor Boyd, Sani Brewer-Wimes, Andrew Chavez, William DeSmet, Kolton Fangmann, Daniel Fleming, Evan Fowler, Suazzie Huffins, Phoebe Loth, Tavien Neipert, Joshua Pelzer, Ella Raef, Jacob Roseboom, Ethan Symmonds, Isaac Vetter, Brent Whene, and CJ Yeager.
This group worked over 1,600 hours with Hawkeye Athletics. The events included Field Hockey, Football, Fry-Fest, Men’s Basketball, Wrestling, Soccer, Track and Field, Volleyball, Women’s Basketball and Swimming. Students delivered exceptional customer service through activities such as driving golf cart shuttles, setting up concession stand stanchions, answering fan questions, and providing support to the event management staff through other operational tasks.
UISRM Agency Guided Field Experience

Each UISRM Agency Associate worked with Leveling the Fields, a non-profit based in South Carolina to prepare elementary-age girls for leadership positions through sport. Groups of Associates provided recommendations on curriculum, program assessment, and organizational growth. The ongoing relationship with the Zach Johnson Foundation’s Kids on Course program included a campus visit (picture above) and interaction with multiple departments between academics, UI Housing & Dining, and UI Athletics. Strategy-focused projects and recommendations were also provided for the Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Championship and the Iowa Heartlanders.

- Jordan Vander Luitgaren (ex. BS 2028) accepted the position of Promotions Intern with the Kane County Cougars.
- Cael Coob (UISRM minor 2025, ex. MA 2026), Emma Kay (BS 2025, ex. MA 2026), Maisy Johnson (UISRM minor 2025, ex. MA 2026), and Ila Nimfero (ex. MA 2026) competed in the National Sports Forum Case Cup Competition in St. Louis.
- Rachel Eddy (ex. BS 2026) accepted a promotion to Facility Supervisor at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.
- Joe Korpalski (ex. BS 2026) accepted the position of Inside Sales Representative with the Washington Nationals.
- Mattie Moats-Carr (ex. BS 2026) accepted a full-time position with the Iowa Sports Foundation after graduation.
- Ethan Stout (ex. BS 2026) accepted the position of Membership Associate with the Atlanta Hawks.
- Sydni Powell (MA 2026) joined two Iowa College of Law students to form a team that competed in the 4th Annual National College Athletics Infractions Hearing Competition co-hosted by Iowa’s College of Law and the UISRM program. During the competition, teams received a case file that was inspired by the facts from the Michigan Football sign-stealing scandal, and they wrote legal briefs and participated in mock NCAA infractions hearings before college sports lawyers and executives serving as judges. Sydni’s team won both of their mock hearings, and their legal brief tied for fifth place out of 27 teams in the competition.
