Voss family
Voss Family (L to R): Alex, Kelsey,  Conner, and Michelle

Beyond my efforts in the classroom, I am fortunate to serve UISRM and its students through two service opportunities that facilitate student success: faculty advisor of the UISRM Symposium planning committee and member of the UISRM Scholarship/Development committee. Not only does this service facilitate student success, but I’m afforded the opportunity to learn of student successes that otherwise might stay out of sight for many.

My support of the UISRM Symposium planning committee leads to additional interactions with professionals who contribute to the event. At this year’s UISRM Symposium, more than ever before, professionals shared how impressed they were with UISRM students. Students approached professionals during the networking sessions with confidence. Also, students demonstrated their interest in people and organizations with questions and talking points curated through research prior to arrival. Interactions with professionals during the UISRM Symposium networking sessions can accelerate an aspiring professional’s career success.

As a member of UIRSM’s Scholarship/Development committee, I am fortunate to learn the stories of many students. Some students have the awareness and bandwidth to amplify their efforts to bring others with them toward success. Others face true hardship yet persist to realize their goals. In both cases and others in between, I’m humbled by the maturity and resilience of UISRM students and how it takes them to new heights. For some, success is recognized excellence. For others, success is continuing the journey.

Through my service opportunities described, I know that financial support of UISRM contributes to the student successes described above. This is part of the reason my family gives - it is a sound investment leading to student success. Furthermore, throughout my childhood my parents modeled generosity to others through giving. My partner, children, and I are fortunate to continue the tradition as Michelle, Conner, and Kelsey have joined me in supporting UISRM students for several years during One Day for Iowa campaigns. We are grateful for what we have and made an additional gift to UISRM on Giving Tuesday. Please join us in supporting UISRM student success during this holiday season.

It’s easy to give to the UISRM program. Any amount is greatly appreciated and will go directly to supporting the unique, experience-based education the UISRM program provides its students.
