The Health Sciences Academic Building (HSAB) will serve as a new academic, research, and administrative home for several University of Iowa programs, including the Health, Sport, and Human Physiology Department. The six-story facility supports modern teaching, collaboration, and interdisciplinary work across the health sciences, sport, and recreation management.

Department Relocation
The department’s transition to HSAB will follow a coordinated packing and moving schedule communicated internally through official calendar invitations and HSAB HSHP Project HQ Teams channels. These methods provide faculty and staff with packing guidance, assigned move dates, staging locations, and room-specific instructions for arrival at HSAB.
Move-Day Coordination
On move days, boxes and equipment will be delivered directly by the approved moving vendor to assigned HSAB rooms. Technology setup, including computers, phones, and printers, will be completed by departmental IT staff.

About the Field House
The historic Field House, built in 1927, is the home of the Department of Health, Sport, and Human Physiology and most of its curricular programming. In addition to hosting countless university athletic events over many decades, the Field House has long housed sport, exercise and fitness, and recreation programs for the university. Conveniently located on the edge of the University of Iowa's health sciences campus west of the Iowa River, the Field House's proximity to the University of Iowa's renowned academic medical center is ideal for students pursuing pre-professional programs like medicine, physical therapy, physician assistant, optometry, podiatry, and dentistry, as well as academic careers in biomedical or physiological science.

New Health Sciences Academic Building is on its way
The new building, which began construction in summer 2023, will be the new home of three important university departments: Health and Human Physiology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, and Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science. This six-story, $249 million facility will become a hub for innovative teaching and learning, community outreach, engagement in experiential education, and cutting edge biomedical clinical community health-related research. The building, which is currently scheduled to be completed in 2026, will also be the first to bring together the Carver College of Medicine and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
